I-Pod/MP3 play list

For a further sensory experience while reading or browsing through Hilltopper Pride, we recommend listening to some of the following songs on this list:

She Caught the Katy
Taj Mahal
A raw, vintage blues song that is the intro music from the “Blues Brothers” when Elwood picks up his brother “Joliet” Jake Blues (where sharp-eyed viewers of the DVD can get a glimpse of a sign touting JCHS first championships) in, where else, Joliet, IL.

All Star
Smash Mouth
Somewhat cliché, but cool, clean, newer, sports-centric, original song.

Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For
U2
Heck, U2 was huge when I was in high school. Still gotta love ‘em. Try and listen to the version of this song from their movie “Rattle & Hum”, it’s especially powerful.

Going the Distance, Rocky soundtrack
Bill Conti
A classic “fire-up” song from the first and only good Rocky movie (which, many forget, won an Academy Award). Rocky’s running through the industrial areas of Philadelphia reminds me of the gritty side of J-town. Plus, being a St. Ray’s grad, I’ve always got a fever for more church bell.

Tryouts, Rudy soundtrack
Jerry Goldsmith
Reminds me of the movie and the classic fall days on Buell Avenue in Joliet playing football with the boys in the ‘hood. The whole Rudy soundtrack is actually very good.

Waiting, Rudy soundtrack
Jerry Goldsmith
Another stirring instrumental from the classic film about a kid from Joliet and a JC grad. In the backyard football scenes, the filmmakers did a remarkable job capturing the Midwestern bones of the town and the Catholic family bonds in Joliet.

Tusk
Fleetwood Mac
Another classic “dial-up” song. Awesome tribal drum beat. My friends and I (you know who you are) used to love cranking it before our floor hockey games. Go JCA & Go Chicken George and His Fighting Cocks!

Walk of Life
Dire Straits
We used this song with frightening success at a pep rally my senior year. All of the students on the first floor of the old gym at JCHS ended up in a giant pile-up on the basketball court.

This is How a Heart Breaks
Rob Thomas
Just a newer, pretty real and intense song with a lot of energy. The NBA used it recently for promos.

Lose Yourself
Eminem
New but original and surprisingly cool anthem of perseverance.

Let’s Get it Started
Black Eyed Peas
Another newer song to get your heart pumping.
